Synopsis

In 19th century rural Japan, young samurai Bunshiro Maki spends his days fencing with his friends when suddenly tragedy strikes. His father Sukezaemon is embroiled in a clan intrigue and ordered to commit hara-kiri for treason.
A cruel fate awaits the child of a disgraced samurai. At just 16 years old, Bunshiro faces many hardships and insults. But Bunshiro is not defeated. He takes all the knocks and blows, and grows into a strong young man.
One person watches Bunshiro with affection: Fuku, his neighbor's daughter from the same samurai class. The two teenagers hide their affection for each other deep in their hearts. Then fate plays another cruel trick...
